Whitewater High School Band
General Guidelines for Chaperones
1. A chaperone is defined as a parent who volunteers to help supervise students at band activities and events.
2. Chaperones should be models of good behavior. All Georgia schools are tolerance free zones – no drinking or smoking is permitted on school property. When acting as a chaperone, on local trips and overnight trips, one should refrain from smoking in the presence of students when off of school property. No drinking of alcoholic beverages is permitted.
3. Chaperones must stay with the band group and supervise all activities. This includes recreation, meals, restroom breaks, and moving the group from one venue to the next (i.e. bus to stadium, in stands and out of the stands, etc.)
4. Chaperones should always be available to students and staff.
5. Chaperones will assist and supervise band students when changing into and out of uniforms at games and competitions.
6. Chaperones should expect students to abide by the rules set forth in the Fayette Co. Student Code of Conduct and the WHS Marching Band Handbook.
7. Chaperones should expect respect from all students.
8. Chaperones should present a united front when dealing with disciplinary issues.
9. Chaperones should handle any discipline or moral issue they feel is warranted. We are responsible for upholding student safety and helping students to uphold their band/school image.
10. Students not following directions or continually being disrespectful should be brought to Mr. Jean.
11. Chaperones should utilize Drum
Majors, Section Leaders, and Bus Captains to help with organizing students.
12. Chaperones are not permitted to transport a student in their personal vehicle during any band activities.
13. Fayette Co. Board of Education policy states that only students who are regularly enrolled in school and who are involved with the instructional activity will be eligible for transportation. Siblings will not be allowed to travel on band buses.
